Clavering LEP
was formed in 2002 by bringing together the three denominations in the village,
that of Methodist, URC and Anglican. At that time the Methodist chapel was
sold, and the proceeds used to modernise the URC chapel which is now used as a
Christian Centre. Worship takes place in
both the Anglican Church and the Christian Centre. There is a monthly rota for
worship with a mix of Anglican 1662 Eucharist, Anglican Evensong, Free Church
services and all age worship, with occasional Methodist and URC Communion
services. In order to overcome the use of 3 different hymnbooks in worship,
Clavering are working on their own hymnbook with a mix of hymns and songs that
are commonly used!!
There is no active youth work on
Sundays at present, but a series of occasional craft afternoons which involves
local children and parents is building relationships The all age worship can attract some
families to this worship as well. There is also active involvement in the local
school, which is very welcoming; this currently involves taking assemblies and
some direct work in the classroom. As well as the work with the young people,
Clavering provides activities for the elderly with a Monday afternoon meeting.
The Benefice of which Clavering is a part runs a Benefice-wide Bible study
group once a fortnight and this attracts between 8-10 people with around half
of these from Clavering itself. This provides spiritual input and growth and is
an important part of the work in the Benefice and the LEP.
There is a planning group which provides ideas for
worship which involves the local community.
